Community Collage

An Experiment in Collective Seeing

Thank you for visiting the Experiment in Collective Seeing!

On Thursday, May 21, image submissions were viewed, followed by a collaborative collage-making process that took place in person at Still Life Studios.

The collage-making experience was open to all who wished to participate. What emerged came directly from those in the room.

There was trust from those who submitted images, and trust in those present to hold them with care.

In honoring the anonymity of the submitted images, the resulting collage was made in and for that moment, and was not meant to circulate beyond it.

Many moments of collective noticing were shared, gifted, and witnessed in this process.

  • 100+ images were submitted

  • 20 anonymous participants contributed images

  • 1 new image emerged from this collective seeing, created in community

Hello, and welcome.

You’re here because you might be curious about collective seeing.

I’ve been exploring perception, attention, and the relationships between things in my artist residency at Still Life Studios for the past few months.

My name is Alyson Wong

As part of a small community experiment, I offer an invitation to move away from a single point of view, and into a shared field of observation.

I’ve been curious about what happens when seeing becomes something we do together.

Rather than simply viewing a set of images or viewing one perspective, we’ll come together and see what emerges from what we’ve each noticed.

What are we seeing these days?
And what happens when those ways of seeing meet?

Photo prompts - optional guidance:

  1. Something you keep noticing

  2. Light (or where it falls)

  3. Something alive

  4. Something that holds your attention

  5. The sky (as it is today)

  6. Yourself, or a part of yourself, as you are right now

  7. Something ordinary

  8. Something you might have overlooked
